Commercial grain farm In Makeni

The 870 hectare farm is situated in the Chikupi area, precisely 25 kilometers from Kafue Road and 10 kilometers from the Kafue River. Accessible via the main Makeni Balmorol Road, the farm is strategically located for efficient agricultural operations.

A prominent feature of the farm is its extensive irrigation infrastructure, with 600 hectares dedicated to irrigation. The irrigation system comprises 12 center pivots, each serving a distinct field. This advanced irrigation setup allows for precise and controlled watering of crops throughout the farm.

The crop management strategy on the farm involves a rotation of maize, wheat, and soya beans across the 12 fields. This rotation not only maximises the use of the land but also contributes to soil health and fertility.

To support the irrigation system, the farm features a canal equipped with two pump houses. These pump houses house automated pumps that efficiently draw water from a nearby source, the Kafue River. The automated nature of the pumps ensures a consistent and reliable water supply to the 12 pipes connected to the center pivots.

In terms of power infrastructure, the farm boasts four transformers, each operating within a voltage range of 230 to 330 volts. This electrical setup is crucial for powering the various machinery and equipment across the farm, providing the necessary energy for irrigation, cooling systems, and other operational needs.

To maintain the optimal functioning of the machinery, the farm is equipped with an equipment room. This room serves the purpose of cooling the machinery, ensuring that it operates efficiently and extends the lifespan of the equipment.
